The Ocean Sciences Department at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric and Earth Science at the University of Miami has an opening for a Post-Doctoral Associate. This is a two-year postdoc position on NSF project QUICCHE. The successful candidate will be joining an international team (US-UK-Sweden-South Africa) of scientists exploring Agulhas leakage and its variability. They will be leading the processing and analysis of SWOT and altimetric sea surface height data and interpreting these data alongside in situ observations from moorings, floats, drifters and WireFlyer sections, to better understand stirring and mixing of Indian Ocean and Atlantic waters in the Cape Basin, with a focus on sub-mesoscale dynamics. There are opportunities to join research cruises. Experience in satellite data processing and advanced analytical methods is desirable.
Education: A recent PhD in physical oceanography or related field.
Experience: Proven ability to formulate scientific hypotheses, conduct rigorous analyses, and clearly communicate scientific results and conclusions in peer-reviewed publications.
